School History
The Cooran State School is the oldest school in the district. The initial school opened in July 1890 in a building provided by the parents on a site close to Six Mile Creek, overlooking the old coach road to Gympie.
The school was shifted to its present site with a building provided by the Education Department in the first decade of last century. In 1990 the school community celebrated its centenary.
Cooran Community
Cooran is a small country town at the north end of the Noosa shire. Nestled in a lush valley , Cooran is situated between Noosa's beautiful beaches to the south, and historic Gympie to the north. Cooran is set below Mount Cooran, a magnificent volcanic plug which marks the townships of Pomona, Cooroy, Pinbarren and Cooran.
Cooran is also situated on the highly acclaimed Noosa Trail Network that includes horse riding and bush walking trails around Cooran. These trails link Kin Kin, Pomona, Cootharaba and Cooroy enabling both residents and visitors to view and experience the spectacular hinterland countryside.
