Welcome to the start of our school year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child over the coming weeks. The first term in Year One is a very busy one. Our goal in the first few weeks is for the children to settle into the routine of more formal schooling. Our theme for this term is to learn all about ourselves. This will incorporate many aspects, such as growing and changing, our families, homes, pets and friends.
As you are aware we have started our phonic program and hope to have learned the majority of sounds by the end of term one. It’s important that your child practises these sounds daily. In Week Two we will start our home reading program, sight words will follow in Week Three. Maths for this term focuses on learning the numbers 1 to 10, basic plane shapes, patterning, basic concepts of time and money.
One of the most important things to me in teaching your child is the communication between home and school. If you have any concerns, questions or simply want to talk about your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to come and see me.
Homework is sent home every Tuesday to be returned by the following Monday. This allows extra time on the weekend for your child to complete work. It makes a more relaxing start to the week having a homework free Monday! I’ll send home a show and tell roster in Week 2 to begin Week 3.
Week 2 Homework and home reading commences.
Week 3 Sight words and Show and Tell roster commences.
Every Monday and Tuesday – Motor Program activities with Mr Hanly
Tuesday Library
Wednesday Mates Program (Working with a Year 7 mate!)
Thursday Music – Mrs McLellan
Friday Physical Education – Miss Brown
Thank you for your help and support – it’s always appreciated.
