Cooran State School

Grade 3

Greetings and welcome to what I’m sure will be an enjoyable and productive Year 3 in 2008.

Procedures :

Homework comes home on Mondays. It takes the form of a spelling unit from “Soundwaves” and a sheet of maths questions. We will discuss this further at our parent meeting in Week 3, but may I make this plea : if homework becomes an issue, please see me sooner rather than later. We can do much to defuse volatile homework situations.

On most Tuesdays we will do a “contract”. A note will accompany the first contract explaining it in depth. Suffice to say that the contract is a “snapshot” of the work we are doing in class at any time. You are encouraged to look through it using it as a portal to your child’s progress. Once again, if you have any concerns, see me sooner rather than later.

Reading is still the key to most knowledge and one of the best ways to help children read is by carefully monitoring their progress. To this end, by Week 3, your son or daughter will have received a Reading Log. I encourage you to read with your child whenever your energy levels will allow it.

Cooks learn by cooking, golfers learn by golfing and READERS LEARN BY READING.

We will discuss reading in much greater detail at our Week 3 parent meeting.

Parents are encouraged to become involved with the classroom, particularly our Friday rotation. More about involvement at our parent meeting.

Are you getting the feeling that I would love to see you at our Parent Meeting? You bet I would.

Cheers and best wishes.
