Cooran State School

Grade 5

Cooran Year 5 in 2008 is a single draft with 24 students. Most have graduated from Year 4 at Cooran but we welcome Nicole and Madison to our group.

Australia : Its People and Places – will be a focus for our learning in Term 1.

We will investigate the “discovery” of Australia, famous Australians and what it means to be Australian. Our studies will include activities in English, Science, Study of Society and Environment, Music and Art. In Science we will also be looking at sources and forms of energy.

This term we will be swimming on Wednesday as part of our Phys Ed program and each child needs to remember togs, towels, a sun shirt and a change of clothes. Parental help on swimming days is important to allow maximum progress to all developing swimmers.

Homework will be given each full week of tem excluding the last week in the form of a sheet issued on Monday, unless there is a special event that requires a different set of home tasks. It is important that you as parents are aware of what your child is doing in the way of homework and that you advise me of any unreasonable difficulty your child may be having with the tasks. Students can get help with their homework before or after school most days simply by asking.

A reading log will not be sent home with children but it is important that children in Year 5 read, or are read to, regularly to improve their language skills. We will do both almost every school day.
